Bishopstown's Creative Writers

About us

Bishopstown’s Creative Writers is a group of young people, from in and around Bishopstown. They

are part of the Foróige Bishopstown and Curraheen Youth Project, a youth project aimed at engaging

young people in developmental and educational opportunities that enhance their life experiences

and potential!

The group started in January 2020, under the stewardship of youth worker, Ruth Flanagan, and have

been learning different elements of story writing, storytelling and illustrations since. They love being

creative, making stories up and playing weird and wonderful games.

During the quarantine, the group have been meeting up at least once a week with their youth

worker via video call. The sessions typically include a show and tell (usually pets!), a catch up on how

everyone is doing, games to get our imaginations going, some story writing and helping each other

with ideas and story development.

The video calls have been a supportive and energetic place for

the young people to see each other and keep in touch, in lieu of our usual face to face interactions.

In addition to the video calls, the group are in touch with Ruth every week, sending her their stories

and illustrations. While they can’t wait to get back to the youth project and see each other in person,

these stories are a result of their many virtual meet ups and hard work at home.

We hope you enjoy them! Please help spread the word.
