It would be easier

Sloane Quirke (They/Them)
It would be easier if I never hurt
If this pain was never inflicted
It would be easier if I didn’t fight
If I just let them keep hurting me

It would be easier if I hid
If I covered my ears
And hope the hits land
On anyone else but me

It would be easier if I ran away
If I changed my name
It would be easier if I bled
If the scars were ones I could show

It would be easier if you could see
Every bit of harm you’ve done to me
It would be easier to just slip away
To turn my back on it all

It would be easier if I did not need to fight
If I could ask nicely and get what I need
It would be easier if I was never pushed down
If the inequality simply did not exist

I wish it was easier
But it will be hard for me
All I can hope through my hardships
Is that they make it easier for you
