Oh Mother
by Lavie Olupona
Oh Mother,
Your sweet children,
Snatched from your basket womb
Suffer.
Oh Nigeria,
We hear your cries.
Hands of war, an empty tomb,
Suffer.
Oh sweet girls,
Girls of Afghanistan,
Your pens empty of ink,
Suffer.
Oh Congo,
Cobalt child with night eyes,
Do not blink,
Suffer.
