Rock on Womxn!
by Joanna Dukkipati
Love it, hate it – I can’t deny that it’s International Women’s Day weekend. And at this time, I want to acknowledge the womxn who rock this world – I have met a good few of them…and I look forward to meeting more of them as I uncover myself on this one complex journey.
I of course refer to womxn who are self-aware and are engaged in self-healing – though I know healing isn’t an accessible resource to all – which is why we’re in a global fight for funded mental health supports – and why small collectives matter.
I spotlight the womxn who push the status-quo in their own world and the world around them through their values and actions!
I soak in the bright light of the womxn who demand liberation for all from patriarchy. I stand with womxn who respect other gender identities and call us out for colonising the planet we live in.
I hold closely the womxn who actively quench their thirst to understand social and cultural contexts.
Above all, I root for womxn who want to be on the right side of the story through their own reflections, words, questions and actions in every day life!
I am grateful for all of this labour. I want to highlight that there’s no one way of being a brilliant and amazing womxn.
All the ways matter and lead to liberation….and everyday is Womxn’s Day.
I went to bed after writing the above and kept feeling uneasy…I slept, woke up and still felt uneasy… I realised I haven’t borne witness to many others including parts of myself …so I am adding more below.
I also bear witness to the womxn who exist in the fringes for whom self-awareness is not a possibility and their reasons I can’t resolve nor presume to understand. [ Yeah, that’s one long sentence. ]
They are brilliant too because they do their best. I identify with this…because I have learned slowly that my best is enough and I decide what my best is.
I have also met womxn on the fringes who are just as unstoppable as – say someone like me who has so much more privilege. You have too, no?
They uncover truths about themselves by living their life … may not have the time to journal about it or even cry about it, like I do. They soak in those truths like their life depends on it and keep being.
And so am equating brilliance with being…. womxn who be, rock!
Womxn who do .. is a bonus for humanity. We need both the being and the doing.
The doing that blossoms from being is what makes this world liveable.
Also, we live in a pluriverse – what is a pluriverse? Multiple realities within one person’s life – our lives are far from binary.
And so as womxn, we’ve got to, simply got to, have each other’s back with whatever means we each have. For instance, kindness is one such currency that I can afford to every womxn. What about you ?
So, if you have made it to the end of this slow burning blog post – thank you – and if like me, you need permission to celebrate, cry, roar, dance, laugh, be enraged, be confused, be present, be withdrawn, be in a cocoon, need permission to BE – consider it given!
Womxn rock… end of.
[ Big note to self : Yes, there are a good few womxn too who don’t let me be but I am not going to dehumanise them. It’s hard not to but I will keep trying. ]
And so am equating brilliance with being…. womxn who be, rock!
About Joanna D.
I am unable to make sense of the world at the moment. I love a good cry when watching movies. That’s all for now.
